Project Overview
Burgers & Beer needed more than televisions mounted throughout its restaurants. Across five locations, the AV systems had to support a sports-focused guest experience while remaining simple and familiar for employees, managers and ownership.
WOW Electronics standardized the core AV and control architecture across all five restaurants. Display quantities, screen sizes and some site-specific hardware vary by building, but the operating philosophy remains consistent from location to location.
An owner or manager can walk into another Burgers & Beer location and already know how the AV system works.
Five Locations. One Familiar Control System.
The systems can be operated from dedicated Crestron touchscreens or authorized phones and tablets. The same control approach follows management from one restaurant to another, reducing training and making daily operation more predictable.
Ownership can also remotely access the AV systems when away from a restaurant. With an authorized mobile device and internet service, the owner can adjust audio levels or change what is being shown on televisions without being physically present at the location.
Daily AV Scenes
Restaurant staff do not have to configure dozens of displays and multiple audio zones from scratch every time the operation changes during the day. WOW Electronics programmed named AV scenes around the Burgers & Beer workflow.
| Scene | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Start of Day | Provides a repeatable AV starting point as the restaurant opens. |
| Morning AV | Breakfast and morning operating state. |
| Afternoon AV | Transitions the restaurant into afternoon sports and entertainment operation. |
| Evening AV | Provides the evening operating state. |
| Main Event | Places the selected featured event on every television and distributes its program audio throughout the restaurant. |
| Close of Day | Provides a predictable close-of-day AV state. |
Four Independent Audio Zones
Each location is organized around four primary audio areas: Bar, Dining, Patio and Private Room. Crestron DM NAX provides the four-zone networked audio platform so each area can be adjusted independently while still participating in restaurant-wide event operation when desired.
BAR • DINING • PATIO • PRIVATE ROOM
A Large Sports Source Pool
Each location has access to a broad selection of television and streaming sources through the Crestron video-distribution system:
- 8 DirecTV receivers
- 4 Spectrum cable boxes
- 1 Apple TV
- 1 dedicated computer for streaming local high-school sporting events when coverage is available
Crestron DM NVX provides the networked video-distribution platform behind the system, allowing programming to be routed across the restaurant without permanently tying one television to one source. During normal operation, different displays can show different games and programming at the same time, giving guests more viewing choices throughout the restaurant.
Normal operation can place different sports and programming on different displays throughout the restaurant.
Main Event: One Event Across The Entire Restaurant
There are also nights when one broadcast becomes the focus of the entire restaurant. For events such as the Super Bowl, UFC fights, the World Series and other marquee broadcasts, staff can activate the Main Event scene.
Main Event routes the selected source to every television in the restaurant and distributes the corresponding program audio through the restaurant sound system. Instead of changing dozens of televisions individually, the restaurant can transition into one coordinated viewing environment through the Crestron control system.
MAIN EVENT • One selected source on every television, with the event audio distributed through the restaurant.
Everyone Sees the Play at the Same Time
In a sports restaurant, distribution is only part of the job. Timing matters.
If televisions showing the same game are not synchronized, one part of the restaurant can see a touchdown, knockout, home run or other major moment before another display catches up. Guests may hear one group celebrating while another group is still waiting to see what happened.
The Burgers & Beer systems were designed around Crestron DM NVX networked video distribution so displays receiving the same source remain synchronized, helping prevent the distracting multi-second differences that can occur when screens are fed through unrelated signal paths or independent streaming devices.
Everyone sees the play at the same time - no group celebrating while another television is still several seconds behind.
Audio and Video Are Commissioned Together
WOW Electronics paired the NVX video architecture with Crestron DM NAX networked audio. Program audio can follow the selected event through the restaurant sound system, and the installed system is commissioned so the sound remains coordinated with what guests are watching.
That becomes especially important during Main Event operation, when the same broadcast is on every television and the associated audio is heard throughout the Bar, Dining, Patio and Private Room zones.
Sports programming is integrated throughout the guest environment rather than treated as a collection of independent televisions.
Standard Platform. Different-Sized Restaurants.
Standardization does not mean forcing identical equipment quantities into buildings with different layouts. WOW Electronics scales the display count, screen sizes, loudspeaker quantities and site-specific hardware to the physical needs of each location while preserving the same basic operating experience.
For example, the documented La Quinta and Rancho Mirage upgrades use the same core Crestron architecture while carrying different display and loudspeaker quantities based on each restaurant layout. The hardware scales; the user experience stays familiar.
Professional Distributed Audio
The restaurant audio systems use Crestron amplification with architectural and pendant loudspeakers, including pendant subwoofers where appropriate. The objective is even coverage and useful level control across the four operating zones rather than relying on television speakers to carry the room.
The audio architecture also supports the sports-viewing experience by allowing selected event audio to be distributed through the restaurant sound system during Main Event operation.
Control from the Room - or Away From It
Local employees and managers can operate the system from dedicated touchscreens, phones or tablets. Ownership has remote access when needed, allowing source and volume changes to be made when the owner is off-site.
Across a five-location operation, that means ownership can assist a restaurant without traveling to the site or asking an employee to work through a collection of individual remotes.
The standardized control platform supports the same operating philosophy across different Burgers & Beer locations.
The Infrastructure Behind the Experience
A system with dozens of displays, numerous live sources, four audio zones and remote control depends on commercial infrastructure behind the scenes.
The documented Burgers & Beer upgrades use centralized equipment racks, structured Cat6 cabling, managed network switching, Crestron NVX/NAX distribution and IP power management. The core infrastructure is standardized while quantities are adjusted for each restaurant.
This gives WOW Electronics a known architecture to support across multiple locations instead of five unrelated AV systems.
Integrated Surveillance
WOW Electronics also integrated commercial IP surveillance at the documented locations using IC Realtime camera and recording systems. The public case study intentionally keeps this portion high-level and does not disclose camera positions, coverage maps or other security-sensitive details.
The Result
The completed Burgers & Beer systems provide ownership with a consistent technology platform across all five locations. Employees use programmed scenes for routine operation. Managers retain direct control when a guest request or event requires something different. Ownership can access the system remotely when needed.
During normal operation, guests can watch different sports and programming throughout the restaurant. During a major event, Main Event can transition the restaurant into one synchronized presentation with the selected broadcast on every television and the corresponding audio distributed through the sound system.
The physical restaurants may differ in size, layout and display count, but the operating experience remains familiar.
Five locations. One AV standard. One familiar operating experience.
